Most of us musicians would agree that today’s music is much less rigid in structure compared to what was played 3-4 generations ago. The majority of today’s songs are made up of 2-4 chords that simply loop over and over. In comparison, music from the 60-70s have choruses with 8-10 chord-sequences with multiple variations. As a result, some old songs can be challenging to play. I welcome the challenge, however. I get a greater sense of accomplishment playing old difficult tunes. Today’s music may be catchy, groovy with a hook. However, after 2 minutes of playing the same lick over and over, boredom settles in. On this site, I aim to incorporate the complex bass lines of the previous generations in today’s hip and fun tunes.
